Diesel generator power room must carries on the reasonable design, especially in ventilation and cooling. The requirements of air inlet and exhaust of diesel generating are very strict. It will enhance the efficiency of diesel generators by designing a good diesel generator room. And then how to reduce the temperature of diesel generator room:
1. When there is adequate water and the water temperature is low, the cooling treatment for the air of diesel generator power room is applying water as cooling medium. The requirements of design a water cooling owner station are as follows, the adequate natural water such as well water, spring water, river water, lake water and so on. The quality of water must be good and non-toxic, tasteless, non - disease bacteria, no corrosion for metals, and the contents of inorganic and organic substances such as sediment in the water should meet the standard requirements. The temperature difference must be more than 15℃ and no less than 10℃,If the water temperature is high, the temperature difference of air supply is small, then the air supply system must be larger, and the cost of investment and operation increased. The advantages of water cooling power station comparing with the other power stations are: the inlet and exhaust air volume is smaller, so the supply and exhaust duct is smaller; and the effect of the air temperature outside water power station is smaller, which ensures room air cooling in any season. The disadvantage is huge volume water. It will not be able to use this way of cooling when the project without enough low temperature water source.
Water cooling power station can apply water spray, which means air washing. Since the hot air in room touching with the spraying water directly, the heat exchanging effect is good; in the meanwhile, some harmful dust in the air of generator room can be carried off by spraying water. Also the water cooling power station adopts face type cooling, which is the heat exchanging on the metal cooler surface between the hot air in the room and the cooling water. The advantage of this cooling way is flexible to organize cooling system, configured according to the request, no or less occupying the diesel gen-set power station. For example, some closed cycle cooling diesel generator set is equipped with a head radiator. It cannot be used in a closed generator room. Lower the temperature of generator room by changing the cooling water of diesel generators into open system and putting the cooling water into the head radiator.
2. In the case of poor water source or diesel generator working in Summer, the temperature of air supply outside generator room meeting the requirement of generator room cooling, should apply to adopt air cooling or the combination of air cooling and evaporative cooling. To increase the air supply by low temperature air (5℃ lower than the requirements of generator room design) from outside the generator room, remove the residual heat in the room by air inlet and exhaust.
Air cooling power station does not require large amounts of cold water and cooling and ventilation system. The ventilation in room is simple and convenient. The volume of air inlet and exhaust is large, and the air is fresh and comfortable by changing many times per hour. However, the fan capacity of inlet and exhaust is large.
Evaporative cooling power station only requires small amount of water. According to the calculation of diesel engine power, in general it is 1.5×1.36kg/h per KW. It is no strict requirement for the water temperature, also reduces more than 50% air supply comparing with the air cooling power station, special suitable for the area which with poor water resource and high water temperature. With the experimental research work on evaporative cooling developing, evaporative cooling equipment is in the continuous improvement.
3. The artificial refrigeration should be used in the case of no enough water sources and air supply temperature not meeting the requirement of air cooling power station, which is the air cooler with cold source to remove the diesel generator room heat. The construction investment and operating costs of artificial refrigeration system are high. In the winter and transition season, the ventilation and cooling of power station should apply the cold air out side. So air cooling should be the main way to remove heat of power station. Diesel power station is running by automatically unit. The person on duty cannot enter the generator room after the compartment operation. The maximum allowable temperature of room cooling design can be 40℃
