There are a wide variety of tools for diesel gen-set maintenance, with different sizes and types. There are special tools for different diesel gen-sets, but the common maintenance tools are same. The usage and requirements of common maintenance tools are as follows:

2.1.1 spanner

Spanner is a tool which is used to remove or assemble spindle angle nuts and bolts. Depending on the different rang and purpose of using, the commonly used spanner such as open end spanner, adjustable spanner, box spanner, torque spanner, socket spanner, allen wrench, pipe wrench and so on.

 

1 . open end spanner

The open end spanner is known as solid wrench, and common types are 6 pieces set and 8 pieces set, which application ranges 6-24rnm. For easy handling, prepare 8 pieces set open end spanner before repairing diesel gen-set,

2 . adjustable spanner

Adjustable spanner is used to remove and assemble irregularly shaped nuts and bolts, and it could be adjusted to different open size according to the different size of nuts and bolts.

3. box spanner

The two terminals of box spanner is ring shaped with sleeve type, with 12 edge angles inside. It is surrounding the six angles of nut to prevent damage. Also use box spanner when repairing the big and small nuts of diesel gen-set as possible as you can.

4. torque spanner

Torque spanner is a professional tool used in combination with socket spanner and can display torque value. Currently the maintenance of diesel gen-set adopted 0~300N• M (N•M), which is used to remove and assemble the nuts of cylinder cover and screws of connecting rod.

5. socket spanner

Socket spanner is a multipurpose combined type tool. It can be combined with different spanners according to the different requirements, such as speeder wrench, adjustable spanner, screw driver and so on. The most nuts and bolts of diesel gen-set must be removed and assembled by socket spanner, e.g., cylinder cover nuts, connecting rod butterfly bolt, set bolt of fuel injection pump and so on.

6. Allen wrench

Allen wrench is special used to remove and assemble the soket head cap screw in the diesel gen-set. This spanner is curved by hexagonal steel, and finish by a special treatment. Choose the suitable spanner according to the diameter of screws, and just put one terminal of screw insert to the hexagonal hole when removing and assembling.

7.pipe wrench

The appearance of pipe wrench is as shown in the drawing2-7.The pipe wrench is mainly used to remove and assemble the round components which are difficult to handle by the other spanners. The pipe wrench is also named pipe tong. In working it is possible to adjust the open end according to the size of components.
